Overview

Hardware revision 2 of the ASUS RT-AX82U, certified under its own FCC ID MSQ-RTAX6100 (2022-10-03). The V1 is certified under MSQ-RTAXJ300 (2019-08-23) and its chipset is a guess based on shared FCC certification with the ASUS RT-AX58U; the values on this page were read from a running v2 unit.

The v2 is externally identical to the V1 and carries the same port complement: 4x 1GbE LAN, 1x 1GbE WAN and one USB 3.x port.

Wireless

The 5 GHz radio is a Broadcom BCM6715 rev B0, not the BCM43684 listed for the V1. The driver reports chipnum 0x6715, devid 0x6003, boardrev 0x1101, corerev 132.2, and loads FullMAC dongle firmware from /rom/etc/wlan/dhd/6715b0/rtecdc.bin (2,750,488 bytes). Board calibration data is /rom/etc/wlan/nvram/RT_AX82U_V2.nvm. The radio is 4x4 and HE160-capable: wl cap reports 160 and bgdfs160, with 16 160 MHz chanspecs available.

BCM6715 was first seen in FCC filings in November 2021, two years after the V1 certification, so the two revisions carry different 5 GHz silicon. The same BCM6750/BCM43684 to BCM6750/BCM6715 transition is already recorded on ASUS PCB ID for the sibling ASUS TUF-AX5400 and ASUS RT-AX5400 lines.

The 2.4 GHz radio is integrated in the BCM6750 SoC, reporting die id 0xf6ca (63178 decimal), consistent with the HND-963178_BASE/96750GW platform naming used for this family. It is driven by wl.ko with the MAC microcode compiled into the module rather than loaded from a separate firmware file.

CLM data revision: API 27.1, Data 11.30.052_241001.

Third party firmware

OpenWrt: not supported. OpenWrt has no target for the BCM6750 — its Broadcom targets are bcm27xx, bcm47xx, bcm4908 and bcm53xx, none of which cover an ARMv7 Broadcom BCA SoC — and no ASUS RT-AX82U entry exists in the Table of Hardware. No open driver exists for either radio: BCM6715 does not appear in the Linux tree, and the 2.4 GHz side uses an ACPHY revision with no open implementation in b43 or brcmsmac.

DD-WRT: not supported. The model does not appear in the DD-WRT router database, which lists no ASUS 802.11ax device at all (the newest ASUS entry is the RT-AC88U).

Tomato: not supported. The model does not appear in the FreshTomato hardware compatibility table; the only AX-class device listed there is the TUF-AX3000 V2.

Asuswrt-Merlin: the upstream project does not list this model. The gnuton fork supports both the V1 and the v2.

Notes

Hardware values on this page were read from a live unit running ASUSWRT-Merlin 388.11 (gnuton fork), kernel 4.19.183, in September 2026. CPU clock is carried over from the V1 page and could not be verified in software. RAM chip markings are not exposed to software and require a teardown.
