Overview
The Actiontec GT701D is an ADSL2+ router/bridge (1 LAN port) that was commonly used by subscribers to Qwest Telephone's [1] DSL service (USA). It is an early example of an Internet appliance that met the US EPA's [2] requirements for an ENERGY STAR [3] designation [4].
The modem uses the Texas Instruments TNETD7100 system-on-a-chip (SoC) from the AR7 family. This SoC provides bridging or routing, a digital signal processor, the DSL physical layer including a line driver, and the Ethernet physical layer. The AR7 family [5][6] are Texas Instruments' designs [7] that first entered service in 2003. The family of designs was sold to Infineon [8] in 2007, and the wireline business of Infineon was in turn spun-off in 2009 to form Lantiq [9]. Lantiq is now part of Intel.
The firmware provided with the modem supports both a web-based interface and telnet log-ins; Telogy's ADAM2 bootloader [10][11] (later TI's PSPboot [12]) allows for firmware updates using FTP.

NOTE: During configuration or flashing a device, the only things that should be hooked to the device is the computer and power. |

Flashing OpenWrt
This device is NOT RECOMMENDED for future use with OpenWrt due to low flash/ram. DO NOT BUY DEVICES WITH 4MB FLASH / 32MB RAM if you intend to flash an up-to-date and secure OpenWrt version onto it! See 4/32 warning for details. |
This device does not have sufficient resources (flash and/or RAM) to provide secure and reliable operation. This means that even setting a password or changing simple network settings might not be possible any more, rendering the device effectively useless. See OpenWrt on 4/32 devices what you can do now. |
OpenWrt support for this device has ended in 2022. 19.07.10 was the last official build for 4/32 devices. |
