Overview

Linksys WRT1900AC v1 - Mamba

This device could possibly be somewhat (or really) similar to Marvell's RD-88W-AP-8864-DR1 ref. design (certified on 12/28) notes each radio as using 3 spatial streams, OS as Linux 3.2.40.

FCC info

  • "48SAM103.SGF" would appear to be silkscreened on the board in the FCC photos.
  • "48.SAM102.SGC" and "2013.08.14" is silkscreened on the wireless module shown.
The 802.11 ASICs markings are not easily discernible.
The 2.4GHz PAMs in use look to be SE2623Ls.
The 5GHz PAMs in use seem to be SKY85402s.
The style of the module is similar to that of the TwinTower module used in the
Google Fiber Network Box (GFRG110) (also using a Marvell based board).

Reg. third party FW support

The wireless driver was submitted as a blob (ap8x.ko)..
the board (Mamba) is noted as using an MV78230 (ARMADA XP) CPU and Renesas uPD720202 USB3 controller (an EtronTech controller is shown in the FCC photos).

While released without any real third-party firmware support, the WRT1900AC (and subsequent Marvell variants) are fairly well supported now that mwlwifi has been integrated into OpenWrt/LEDE, though inclusion into the mainline Linux kernel is still pending.

Other

The shown board seems to be manufactured by Wistron NeWeb ("48SAM103.SGB" / something like that appears to be silkscreened on it)
Linksys's previous Broadcom based gear manuf. by WNC had a board P/N starting with 48SAB, seeming to indicate that it is Marvell powered (MTK may still be R)
The Wi-Fi radios would appear to be modular (Mini PCIe)
