This is the default hardware platform of the FreedomBox project as of June 2012.

DreamPlug on the Debian Wiki
DreamPlug on the PlugWiki

The DreamPlug is covered by two FCC IDs...

  • YCJ003-DS2XXXW - Wi-Fi filing
  • YCJ003-DS2XXXB - Bluetooth filing

"Dream_Plug_V7R1" and "GLOBALSCALE" is silkscreened on the main board.

Per the FCC docs...

  • This device is using the following Genesys Logic chips
GL836 SD/MMC/MS card reader IC
GL850G USB 2.0 hub IC
  • The model nubmer is 003-DS2001.
  • Wi-Fi is 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR supported
By default, the DreamPlug starts WiFi in AP mode.

Default SSID format of Plug2-uAP-XXXX (XXXX is 4 hex digits, lower case letters)

WiGLE indicates that the device uses a 00:24:23 (AzureWave) OUI

The wireless module is presumably an AzureWave AW-GH381.

Other model DreamPlugs may come with 88W8787 based (802.11bgn) Wi-Fi modules..

Schematics and a block diagram of the device are available in the FCC docs.

"Dream_Plug_V8R1" is silkscreened on the board.
F0:AD:4E (GlobalScale) OUI for Ethernet interfaces
2 MB Serial Flash (MX25L1606EM2I-12G) on the board
4x SK hynix HY5PS1G831CFP-S6 (1Gbit [128Mbit x 8], DDR2, PC800) RAM chips
2x Marvell 88E1116R GbE PHYs
C-Media CM108 USB audio controller

Detachable power supply (barrel connector on the logic portion)

This model may come with a 2 GB internal microSD card.

The GlobalScale site specifies that it comes with a 4 GB microSD card,
however, the site also specifies the device supports 11b/g/n..
The PlugWiki page states the device comes with 512 MB of NAND
(the pads are unpopulated on the FCC photos and Ken's photos).

By default, Debian selects the mv643xx_eth

(MV-643xx GbE driver version 1.4) module.
